my journey from mental health to design

my interest in psychology and design led to me to a career in creative problem solving

Before becoming a designer, I worked in mental health for about 5 years. where I learned to always be open to new solutions and to adjust environments and care strategies in order to meet the needs of each individual client. I started using a human-centered approach while working in the mental health industry and it is something I have carried with me into my work as a user-experience designer.

Despite finding fullfillment working in mental health, I found myself constantly craving more creativity in my work. One day, as I was redesigning my resume layout and hierarchy for the millionth time, I realized that there must be a job that would allow me to do something like this.

I started researching jobs that focused on design and psychology and soon found user experience design.

these are a few of my favorite things

When I'm not working, my favorite thing to do is to pack my binoculars and go for a bike ride along the scenic beach pathways in my city. I love to sit at the different look out points and search for seals, otters and other wildlife.

When I'm at home, I enjoy working on crafts like scrapbooks or book nooks. I enjoy baking my favorite dessert - apple pie. I am also part of my community choir and I play piano for enjoyment. When I'm wanting to relax, I drink tea while watching my favorite shows.
