project overview

PROJECT OVERVIEW AND GOALS

This project had 3 systems that were connected and exchanged information so that resources could properly be managed. I worked closely with a service designer, product owner and scrum master over the two years I spent on this project.

The primary goal was to add new features that were roadmapped that year while incorporating user and stakeholder feedback. It was important to create designs that were consistent with the existing style guide and branding, unless there were significant usability issues that needed to be considered.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Each of the 3 systems has a different purpose, but all of them work together towards the common goal of managing resources, assignments, planning and logistics. The first system was dedicated to managing resources, placing resources onto assignments, planning and logistics, and updating resource information.

The second product was dedicated to managing the paperwork and documentation required for certain types of resources to be deployed as well as an approval process that needed to be tracked.

The third product provided a way for external users to submit the appropriate documentation that could be reviewed and approved by internal employees so that certain types of resources could get approved for use.

DESIGN COMPLEXITY

All 3 systems that shared information needed to be considered when making design decisions. At times, information needed to be pulled from other products outside of the three products I was working on, which meant taking time to contemplate the impacts of that and how it would affect the users of each of those systems.

Users from different areas of the organization were included in the collaborative process of creating new designs and workflows. Workshops were carried out as designs were being created to gather feedback from the appropriate user groups.
